Sasaki Foundation Launches Call for Proposals
Alexandra Lee
The Sasaki Foundation announced today its Call for Proposals for the 2019 Design Grants. The Design Grants are an annual program held by the Sasaki Foundation to showcase projects that support and drive interdisciplinary innovation and empower our local communities. Up to six teams will each be awarded $15,000 and will have dedicated time in the Incubator at Sasaki.
The Incubator cultivates a network of ambitious people committed to advancing solutions to the major challenges our generation faces, and teams will have opportunities to connect with Sasaki design professionals including architects, civil engineers, graphic designers, interior designers, landscape architects, planners, urban designers, and data analytics and visualization experts.
The focus areas for this year’s Design Grants are 1) proactive approaches to climate adaptation, 2) new models for housing, 3) innovation in transit & access to mobility choices, and 4) creative community building.
Teams will be tasked with addressing these challenges within various communities in Massachusetts.
- How can we increase local awareness of planning and designing for resilience and inform systems-level approaches to climate risks and solutions?
- What strategies can help keep residents in their communities (e.g., community land trusts, zoning, accessory dwelling units, re-parcellation of land)?
- How could better access to technology improve mobility for your community?
- What are creative opportunities for adaptive reuse of buildings or vacant lots to enrich communities?

If you have ideas on how to tackle climate adaptation, housing or transit inequities, or to foster community building, apply today for one of our design grants and feel free to share with your networks.
We encourage you to attend our Open House on Wednesday, March 27th from 5:00-7:00pm in the Incubator at Sasaki to learn more. Alternatively, see our call for proposals page for an Open House in a community near you.
“We are thrilled to launch our second Call for Proposals and invite entrepreneurial teams to join us in the Incubator at Sasaki to leverage design as we address issues of equity in our communities” says Mary Anne Ocampo, Board Chair of the Sasaki Foundation and Principal at Sasaki. “We believe this work will help to strengthen and empower our future leaders.”
