2024 DESI interns at a Boston Public Schools Long Term Facilities Workshop

Roxbury, Massachusetts

Our spring 2025 DESI program is underway. SEED applications are now open for summer 2025.

About DESI

Do you ever look around and think of creative ways that you could improve a park, a building, or a process in your community?

Designers do this all the time. We’re big thinkers and creative problem solvers. We take dreams and make them realities. And we want to teach you how to do the same. Design can be your opportunity to change the world!

Interested? Apply for our semester-long Designing Environmental and Social Impact (DESI) paid internship! As an intern, you will work on an independent project based in your community. You will learn to draw, use design programs to visualize your ideas, and learn how to effectively communicate them. Through this experience you will also learn about social and environmental issues facing the communities that surround you. Your mentor, a professional in the design industry, will guide you through your project and introduce you to the different careers you can pursue in design.

Our DESI interns are…

  • residents of Boston or the Metro North region.
  • current 11th or 12th grade students.
  • always setting goals and finding ways to achieve them.
  • curious and inquisitive.
  • interested in a job where they get to think creatively every day.
  • looking for a challenge.
  • excited about learning.
  • not afraid to ask questions or share their ideas.
  • individuals who want to know how to make a difference in their communities.
  • individuals who want to explore future careers.
